The view from the top of the Texas uni system

One of the administrative issues I’ve been dealing with is grad student class size. Basically, we’re running into issues because our graduate classes are small. This photo caption does not fill me with hope:

Raymond A. Paredes, Commissioner of Higher Education, lays out the many challenges facing higher ed, including dismal graduation rates, a disconnect between what’s expected of high school students compared to what universities expect, the challenge of attracting Latinos to college programs, and the need to cut costs by dropping low-production courses and asking faculty members to take on heavier teaching loads.
